How are matcha tea whisks made?
"Tea whisks are handmade. Three-year-old bamboo is cut in the winter, stored for a year, and dried. Fist-width pieces are cut from the soft, flexible bamboo. One half is carefully peeled to soften it. Then, the first few bristles are cut with a special knife, between twelve and twenty-four, depending on the thickness of the wood. The bristles are then bent outward and cut lengthwise along the edge to remove the inner part. The bristles are then cut several more times and carefully separated, creating fine bristles that are soaked in water. The bristles are scraped to make them ideal for whisking. The outermost bristles are connected and stabilized with a wire, then this process is repeated again to ensure good stability. Although the effort required for such a whisk is considerable, it can ultimately only be used about ten times.
When choosing a broom, the more bristles, the finer the foam.” (Wikipedia)
